1905-MARCH 3rd, Holiday given in honour of Fred Mitchell (pupil teacher in Boys’ school) obtaining 1st Class in King’s Scholarship Examination. (126)

1909-September 3rd, School reopened after Summer Holiday. Twenty-three children have left to attend GROVE ROAD SCHOOL. (182).

1911-NOVEMBER 3rd, Fire Drill on Tuesday. School cleared in 2 ½ minutes (208).

1912- March 22nd, Mrs Morley’s son has died. (212).

1917-September 21st, Miss Carbury is absent due to her sister’s death. (259).

1917-OCTOBER 12th, School Alteration. Large window made in small classroom to improve ventilation and light. (260).

1918-December 20th, Miss Snook absent due to sister’s death. (270).

1920-January 30th, One death from Diphtheria. (281). 1922-November 3rd, One death due to Diphtheria. (304). 1925-April 30th, Rosina Cairns ROSE resigns. (324). (Teacher for almost 40 years- 30 spent at St John’s).(314).

1925 May 1st, Elsie SINCLAIR, new Headmistress. (324).

1926-December 23rd, School closed for Christmas after a visit from Father Christmas.(353)

1927-August 30th, The school has been redecorated during the holiday and a narrow wooden beading added. (365).

1927- October 14th, We have had fires in school for the last two days. (367).

1927- November 11th, School nurse visited on the 10th. (First mention of school nurse). (369).

1928-January 17th, refused a child this morning as no more seating accommodation is available (374).

1932-March 17th, Fire Brigade, led by Superintendant (sic) Murch, attended incident at school. (452).

1899July 14th, Barnum’s Show cause for children’s poor attendance. (40)

1900-March 2nd, Holiday given in honour of the relief of Ladysmith. (50)

1901February 1st, School closure due to body of Queen Victoria being conveyed from Osborne to Portsmouth.(63).

1901-May 3rd, Entertainment at Thorngate Halls. (67). 1901-November 1st, Holiday given for arrival of OPHIR in the harbour. (73).

1902-June 6th, “Peace Holiday”. (82).

1910-MAY 13th, Holiday given, George V proclaimed King. (193)

1911-June 2nd, Sudden death of Mr Whittaker (school inspector) after leaving school on Wednesday, inquest to be held on Friday. Head to attend. (204).

1912- February 2nd, Miss Amy Johns received notice today from the secretary that she has been appointed Headmistress of GROVE ROAD INFANTS SCHOOL. (210)

1912-March 1st, Miss Johns left yesterday to take charge of Grove Infants. (211).

1914-SEPTEMBER 25th, Royal Marine School closed for Admiralty purposes. Children admitted to St John’s. (234)

1915- October 22nd, Miss Carbury is absent due to her brother leaving for France. (243)

1916-September 29th, Absences due to children being disturbed by a Zeppelin’s visit. (251)

1918-OCTOBER 9th,Influenza epidemic, school closed. (268)

1918-September 13th, Agricultural Show on Vicarage Lawn. (268)

1918-November 15th, Armistice signed on Monday- holiday given on Tuesday.(268)

1918-December 6th, Absences due to children going with parents to see the German Submarines come into harbour.(269).

1919-April 11th, School Pageant held in town in aid of new hospital. School closed.(274).

1919-November 14th, Children attended short Church Service for 2 minutes silence at request of H.M. The King. Holiday in afternoon. (280).

1921-November 25th, Isolation Hospital is full. (296).

1922-March 3rd, Holiday given all day Tuesday for Princess Mary’s Wedding Day. (298).

1922-November 10th, Holiday given on Thursday at the request of the first mayor of Gosport. (305)

1923-APRIL 27th, School holiday at King’s request to celebrate Royal Wedding. (308)

1925-October 16th, School closed at 11.45 am due to Prince of Wales’ return from S. America (328).

1929-June 5th, Headteacher attended opening of the Brockhurst School at 3 o’clock. (399).

1931-December 17th, Miss Campbell, the lady dentist, inspected 132 children on Thursday 17th. (448).

1932-July 5th, School closed for afternoon on account of the Parish Garden Sale. The children danced the Maypole and the older children did other dances. (458).
